It was over two years ago that I first heard about the Lux series. I heard many a fan girl (and boy) gushing about the gorgeous, dangerous and all round desirable Daemon Black. I have to admit I was curious. A boy boyfriend with thousands of people all around the world singing his praises -I knew this was a series I had to read. Whilst I wasn’t quite as enamoured with the attitudinal alien as so many others, I did find many things about Obsidian to keep me reading the rest of the series.
SIX REASON WHY YOU SHOULD READ THE LUX SERIES:
#1: The main character Katy is a book blogger! As a fellow book blogger, I felt a bit of a kindred spirit in Katy. She loves books as much as I do and I think many readers will appreciate her bookish references.
#2: The chemistry between Katy and Daemon is hot (and I’m talking electronics meltingly hot!)
#3: The witty humour. The banter between the characters in this series is at times witty, sometimes silly, occasionally borders on cheesy – but it is always amusing.
#4: It’s more than just a romance. When I began this series I was prepared for it to be a bit of a fluffy kind of book. Girl falls in love with the boy next door (who just happens to be an alien). And there is that – don’t get me wrong the romance is great. But that isn’t all that this series has to offer. There’s action and adventure, situations where you have no idea if the characters are going to survive and moments where you’re not sure if you want them to.
#5: The spinoff novel, Obsession. I really like how Jennifer L Armentrout has written a novel which runs concurrent to the Lux series but is completely different. It features an alien who is on a different side of things to Daemon and Katy. It’s also an adult paranormal romance as opposed to the Lux series which is young adult. Obsession is also a really interesting read because JLA has perfectly captured the Lux vibe whilst at the same time perfectly transitioned the world into a more adult novel.
#6: Daemon Black. Okay, so this one might seem silly considering what I said before but whilst he wasn’t exactly my cup of tea he is a perfect partner for Katy. I can completely understand why Daemon is book boyfriend material for so man people.
So there you have it. 6 reasons why you should check out the Lux series by Jennifer L Armentrout. And one more reason – the fifth and final book, Opposition, was released on the 5th of August so there is none of that awkward and anxious waiting for the rest of the series to come out!
And here is all the info for the first book in the Lux series, Obsidian!

Starting over sucks. When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring...until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up. And then he opened his mouth. Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens. The hot alien living next door marks me. You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades. If I don't kill him first, that is.
I’ve seen this series around the blogosphere, but let’s be honest here…those covers are SO off-putting. Plus I have a weird pet peeve for one-word titles. So there’s that. But I love that the main character is a book blogger – that’s awesome! I might read it just for that 🙂
One of my friends is OBSESSED with this series, and I knew that it had a fellow book-loving character (which obviously adds to the appeal), but like Emily said – I guess the covers are part of the reason that I never really picked them up, or maybe it’s just the fact that I have so much more to read. That being said, I think I can safely say that I will eventually get to this series, because I do love the sound of witty banter which makes a novel that much more enjoyable to read.
It took me a little bit to warm up to Daemon, but I’m fully in love with him now. But I am sooooo nervous to read Opposition. I have it, but I haven’t cracked the book open yet. End of series are so tough.
