Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.
Each week they will post a new Top Ten list that one of their bloggers over at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join.
The topic for this week is: Top Ten Popular Authors I’ve Never Read…
I found this week’s list hard to compile. Most popular authors that I’ve heard of I endeavour to read. I like seeing what is out there and if people are talking about a book – I want to read it too so I can compare my opinions!
Here are ten popular Young/New Adult authors that I’ve not read – yet. (Links take you to the author’s page on goodreads and I’ve put the titles of some of these authors books/series just incase you’re unfamiliar with them too)
- Garth Nix – The Abhorsen series, The Keys to the Kingdom series
- Libba Bray – The Gemma Doyle trilogy, Beauty Queens, The Diviners
- Alexandra Bracken – The Darkest Minds series
- Veronica Rossi – Under the Never Sky series
- Simone Elkeles – Perfect Chemistry series, Wild Cards series, How to Ruin series
- Ann Aguirre – The Samantha Jax series, Razorland series
- Abbi Glines – Too Far series, The Vincent Boys series
- Ransom Riggs – Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series
- Jennifer Echols – Going too far, Forget You, Such A Rush
- Ellen Hopkins – Crank, Impulse, Burned
After thinking about this topic for a while, I was on a roll. It wasn’t as hard as I first thought… but my to-read list is now a little heavier now than when I started!
A couple of those are on my TBR list, like Ann Aguirre…and now that you’ve reminded me of Garth Nix, I loved his Abhorsen trilogy as a kid. Hm, maybe it’s worth looking up his newer stuff. Thanks for that!
I’ve only read Libba Bray and Veronica Rossi out of the authors on your list. I would definitely recommend Veronica Rossi. If you can put up with starting another series!
My list practically wrote itself, and could’ve easily gone on to include 100 more writers. I just don’t read popular, modern writers unless it might be for a literature class.
Considering I haven’t even heard of some of these authors, let alone read them, I think I need to start reading!
I’ve only read Libba Bray from your list. I think this weeks lists are so interesting, so many authors to be introduced to. kelley—the road goes ever ever on
Oh wow! I haven’t read the authors on your list as well, aside from Abbi Glines and Jennifer Echols. I’ve read quite a few of Glines’ books and loved them. I’ve read Echols’ Such A Rush, and while I liked it, I didn’t really love it. Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading these authors once you get to them! 🙂

I haven’t read any of these authors, either! XD
But I find that I take a very long time to get around to authors/books that everyone loves. I generally like to read whatever I’ve been feeling like reading at that time, and most of the time, the uber popular books just don’t fall into that category. And sometimes, I try and avoid very popular books, at least for a while, because I feel like I will go into the book with some preconceived notion that it is fantastic, and most of the time they don’t live up to it. 🙁
Ah – great post! I’ve only read Libba Bray and Ransom Riggs. 🙂
Wow, I have not read any of those authors yet! Quite a few of them are on my to read list, though.
I’ve only read three of these authors. I don’t think you are missing much in terms of Glines, in less you are looking for something sexy and beach-ready. I do like Libba Bray quite a bit though. Great list!
Libba Bray is an incredible author, I highly recommend her books. The Gemma Doyle trilogy are fun and intriguing reads.
Actually I haven’t read any of the authors on your list either, guess I better start getting to my TBR pile. 😉

I’ve seen many of your listed authors in stores and online but have yet to read any! For many of them, I think it’s the genre itself that makes me not gravitate towards them.

My TTT This Week.
I hope you get around to reading Veronica Rossi and Jennifer Echols, they’re two of my faves!
I have a copy of books by both of them. Just haven’t got around to them yet. I have high expectations of Veronica Rossi and I think that’s why I’m nervous to read her books!
I can understand that. There are a few genres that I try to avoid. Most recently I’ve been doing all I can not to read any New Adult.
I’m not sure if they’re good – I’ve not read them! 😛 But I think I’m going to start with Veronica Rossi. I’ve heard amazing things about her dystopian series.
I have a copy of the third one… I should buy the first two and get stuck into Gemma Doyle! Thanks for the recommendation 🙂
That’s what is making me not so eager to read Glines. I’m not a fan of New Adult which is basically just college kids having sex. I don’t consider myself a prude but there needs to be some kind of plot… I feel like she’s going to be one of those authors. But I shall read some Libba Bray 🙂
So many authors… so little time to read them all! 😛
Seems Libba Bray is fairly popular. I’m starting to think I shouldn’t leave her unread!
It’s all the hype! I often feel let down by it. I don’t want to have other people’s opinions and expectations weighing down on me! Wow.. I sound a little silly but I think you know what I mean.
I feel let down by hype ALL the time. 🙁 I almost wish hype didn’t exist, haha, so that I wasn’t influenced in the slightest, and that I didn’t have any expectations.
Thanks for the advice 🙂 I have a few Glines books on my kindle… just need to find the time. I feel like she’s an author you have to be in the right mood for.
There have been a lot of authors that I’ve not heard much about but seeing others lists and the comments on them… I’ve added quite a few books to my to-be-read list.
