Top Ten Tuesday: Books I’m Thankful For

It’s Tuesday! And that means it’s time to participate in the meme created by Broke and Bookish where bloggers share their top ten based on a given topic.

Today’s Topic is: Thanksgiving freebie — tell us what you are thankful for! Books you are thankful for!

I really like this topic. I’ve been a feeling a little bit Pollyanna-ish lately trying to see the good in everything and everyone and I realise that generally I have a lot to be thankful for. And that definitely applies to books and authors.

  1. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. I didn’t love this book. And I don’t like that I misspell the author’s first name almost every single time I type it. But I’m thankful for this book because I think it spawned a new dawn to the young adult book scene.
  2. Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas. I’m thankful to this series for showing me that love triangles can be written well. And it’s okay to be a grown woman and head over heels in love with a fictional world.
  3. Harry Potter by JK Rowling. I’m thankful for this series for introducing me to a whole world of bookish people. I’ve been involved with a HP fansite for ten years. Which is kind of insane. And I’ve met people from all over the world where the only thing we really have in common is our love of the people and places in the magical wizarding world.
  4. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. This book taught me that if I didn’t like the ending the author gives us – that’s what fan fiction is for! OH yes… before I even knew what fanfiction was, I was rewriting Little Women so that I got a Laurie/Jo happily ever after.
  5. Me Before You by Jojo Moyers. This book I’m thankful for because it broke my heart in the most wonderful way. You know those books where you know what is going to happen and you know it’s going to be bad but somehow you’re not ready for it when it comes. And when it hits you it is like all the air gets forced out of your chest and your heart breaks over and over again. That’s what this book was like for me. And I loved every minute of it. I’m so glad there are books and authors out there who can affect us so much we feel it physically.
  6. Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta. I’m thankful that we have such incredible Aussies writing the most amazing books. I’m also thankful to this particular book because in a way it helped me survive my final year in high school.
  7. The Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward for getting me out of my YA world and into a much darker, grittier and romantic literary scene.
  8. Amy Amaryllis by Sally Rogers. This was the book I read a thousand times when I was a preteen. It’s not very well known and I remember buying it with a dollar I found on the ground of a shopping centre car park. It’s a book about two girls who are physically identical and they magically switched places. It is on my list because this is one of those books which I profoundly remember reading and I can’t remember reading a novel on my own before this one. This is one of the books which helped spawn my love of reading.
  9. Shadows by Paula Weston. This book showed me that not only can I enjoy an Angel centric story but angels can be pretty bad-arse.
  10. Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. This book makes the list for showing me that just because I want to read a book doesn’t mean I can. I started this book when I was 12 year old. I turned 29 on Friday. It’s still a work in progress… I will one day finish it!

Which books are you thankful for?

Happy Tuesday and Happy Thanksgiving to all those in the US on Thursday. 🙂

  1. Great list! I’m thankful to Twilight too because it introduced me to the amazing world of YA books. And Harry Potter because it is still my favorite magical world to get lost in 🙂 And of course Throne of Glass for the same reasons as you 😉

    • I have to admit I love all the little extra Harry Potter bits – the play, the screen play, the new film – because they mean that I never really have to leave the universe and there’s shiny new content to indulge myself with 😀

    • It was! And I was thrilled that they got the movie right. I felt the same things when I watched it on screen as I did when I read it. Have you read the sequel? I liked it but felt it was somewhat unnecessary and not quite as everything as the first one. Everything is a terrible adjective but I hope you understand what I mean.

  2. I think books like Twilight and some of these others have brought so many people to reading. And it’s amazing how a book or fictional world can bring people together from all over the world! So true… great list!

  3. What a beautiful list you have on here even though The Black Brother Brotherhood is my least favorite thing in this world I still like it. And “Throne of Glass” is one of my favorite books of all time! Wishing you to read more books to be thankful for 🙂 My TTT

  4. I see a lot of series/books on your list that I’m very appreciative of as well. I totally agree with Twilight. It’s not the best work of fiction ever written but it paved the way for the popularity of the YA genre.

    Great list!

  5. I loved Twilight! It is on my list too!
My 10 years old daughter just finished Harry Potter series and now she joined a Harry Potter book club at school and is starting to read it again. She loves those books! I wish I could be in the exact right mood to read them too.
Little Woman made to to our list too!
    My TTT.

  6. Lovely list. I agree, Twilight had a pretty huge impact on the YA scene. It’s also one of the very first YA books I discovered. So I’m pretty thankful for it as well!
