Q&A with Kylie Scott!

I’m delighted to be sharing with you a Q&A with Kylie Scott – author of the Stage Dive series. The Stage Dive series is one of my favourite contemporary romances featuring incredibly sexy rock stars and smart, down to earth, kick-arse in their own way, leading ladies. The books are extremely funny with great characters and plots which keep you hooked until the final page. You can find my review for Deep here.

Q&A with Kylie Scott

Deep

Hi Kylie,

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions today.

To start off, how would you describe the Stage Dive series in 6 words or less?

Romance, rock stars, funny, sexy.

Which character or couple from the Stage Dive series was the most fun to write about?  Were there any characters you found particularly difficult to write?

Mal, the drummer, was a lot of fun to write. He’s just a no-filter ball of hyper energy. Jimmy, the lead singer, was harder. He’d had a tough time and was dealing with a lot of emotional baggage.

In this series you have written such strong and realistic female characters. Do you have a lot in common with your characters?

I like Lena the best. She tends to roll with the punches and is very snarky.

Plotter or Pantser: When you started the Stage Dive series, was the rest of the series planned out?

I have a rough idea of where I’m going. I tend to plan a few chapters ahead as I write to make sure all of the characters motivations etc are present and accounted for.

Where there any characters which refused to do what you wanted them to? Did any of them surprise you along the way?

Jimmy had the biggest overhaul in edits. He needed to be a bit less broody and silent so we could get inside his head, via Lena.

Which five bands/artists (past or present) you would love to see live?

Kings of Leon, Led Zeppelin, The Killers, The Doors, Janis Joplin.

Your next series, Dive Bar, is a spinoff of Stage Dive featuring Vaughn who we meet in Deep. Are you done with Stage Dive or will we see them again?

They might pop up occasionally in the Dive Bar series. They do after all come from the same town and know each other.

Contemporary romance, sci-fi, zombies – you’re an author of many talents! Do you have a favourite genre to write?

I love romance. The ability to move around between the sub-genres is awesome.

If you were stranded on a desert island, which three books would you wish to have with you?

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, The Stand by Stephen King, and Sweet Dreams by Kristen Ashley.

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A singer or a writer. Then I realised I hated performing in front of crowds. Hiding away in an office the bulk of the time suits me far better.

This one is just for fun: You are in a Stage Dive tribute band, which part do you play (Guitar, Drums, Vocals or Bass Guitar)?

Ha, my guitar skills are only average at best. Better let me be Jimmy.

Thank you again for chatting with me today and dealing with my fan-girling! Best of luck with Deep and I can’t wait to read whatever you write next!

Thank you!

I can’t wait for the first Dive Bar book to be released and have to wonder just what karaoke with Kylie would be like!

Thanks for reading my Q&A with Kylie Scott and if you haven’t checked out the Stage Dive series yet – I highly recommend you do!
