Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they will post a new Top Ten list that one of their bloggers over at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join.

The topic for this week is Top Ten Books/Movies To Read Or Watch To Get In The Halloween Spirit OR Top Ten Characters Who I Would Totally Want To Be For Halloween

You probably don’t know this about me but I don’t like Halloween. I feel like it’s one of those completely commercialized holidays whose main purpose is to help stores sell more stuff people don’t need. Maybe I only feel like this because I’ve never trick-or-treated.

Or maybe it’s because I’ve NEVER dressed up in a costume before. Ever. But I do love costumes.

So despite my dislike for the holiday – I’m excited to share with you all my TOP TEN CHARACTERS I’D LOVE TO BE FOR HALLOWEEN!

Most of these are fantasy, paranormal or sci-fi characters because I think that it’s probably very hard to dress up as a contemporary character and have people who know who you are… except I suppose if you were Gus from TFIOS the one leg might give you away….

Okay. My ten:

Rose Hathaway from Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead – Wearing all back, boots and being generally kick-arse. What’s not to love?

Celaena Sardothien from the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas – I’m not sure if I want to be her for Halloween or if I just want to be her in general! She’s amazing although I wonder just how much all her weaponry would weigh me down…

America Singer from The Selection by Kiera Cass – Those gorgeous gowns. That’s all I need to say.

Cinder from The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer – I love Cinder and I think whilst dressing up as her would be a challenge (what with the cyborg leg and other unique parts of her) it would be so much fun.

Anyone at all from the Harry Potter series – Because they’re all awesome.

Evie from Spark by Rachael Craw – She’s kick-arse and being her for a day would be fun.

Evie from Poison Princess by Kresley Cole – She’s the Empress and I just love how she’s describe in the books complete with the vines crawling up her arms.

Evie from The Diviners by Libba Bray – Dressing up as a 1920’s flapper girl would be amazing!

Lilac from These Broken Stars by Aimee Kaufman and Megan Spooner – I love how as Lilac I’d be able to dress up in her gorgeous gown but also mess it up a little to show the damage it sustained in her adventures.

Any of the Chimera from the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor – Wings, manes, fur, human parts… It would be the most incredible costume ever…

It’s probably cheating just a little with some of my choices. But it’s hard to choose just which Harry Potter character I’d like to be. From Luna Lovegood to Albus Dumbledore – I kind of want to be them all! Same with the Chimera from Daughter of Smoke and Bone. They’re all so very cool in their own ways… and probably VERY hard to dress up as them. If I was a guy I think my ultimate book character dress up would be Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones. Whenever I see people dressed up as him at Supanova I always think it’s such a great costume…

Have you ever dressed up as a character from a book before? Are there any you will be dressing up as this year? Do you have an ultimate character you would one day like to dress up as? Feel free to leave me a comment. Happy Tuesday and Happy Early HALLOWEEN!

  1. I’m not a big fan of Halloween. I do think it’s a bit overrated. I’ve never dressed up as a character, but after recently reading Throne of Glass, I can see why many would want to dress up as Celaena! Great list!

  2. I kind of just want to be Celaena Sardothien all day every day. Especially when she’s eating copious amounts of chocolate cake.

I’m not really keen on Halloween either. It seems like the shops try to make it into “something” in Australia, but….eh. They don’t get there. It sounds like a fun excuse to dress up awesomely, but I’m not fussed. I dressed up as Jack in the Beanstalk when I was 7 for a birthday party. Because I have awesome ambitions like climbing a beanstalk apparently. But that’s the only time I remember dressing up!

Gosh the name Evie/Eva/Eve is seriously popular in YA atm…

  3. Ha ha, I’ve had many a year dressing up as Hermione! XD My mum made me a cape when I was 11, but omg I know the struggle is real! WHO FROM HP TO BE??? (rhymes XD)
I do love dressing up (One of the reasons I chose drama and theatre as my school subjects)
I have to admit I have dressed up as Rose before. 😀 Gotta love a good bit of black boots and leather jackets.
AND THESE CHARACTERS JUST REMIND ME OF THE BOOKS I STILL NEED TO READ!!! *coughDaughterofSmokeandBone,TheseBrokenStars,TheLunarChronicles,TheSelection,ThroneofGlasscough*

  4. Those are some great choices! I totally understand why you would want to dress us as Celaena! She is an awesome character! And I do love America’s dresses! I LOVE CINDER! She is so awesome! It would be a lot of fun to dress up as her! And yay for anybody from Harry Potter!
I haven’t dressed up as any bookish character, but I these are some that I would love to dress up as too.
This is a great list! I really enjoyed it.
Thanks so much for stopping and commenting on my blog! 😀
