Top Ten Tuesday: Character Names I Love

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.

Each week they will post a new Top Ten list that one of their bloggers over at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join.

The topic for this week is: Top Ten Character Names I Love OR Unusual Character Names

When I was thinking about this topic and jotting down names Β I realized it could also be called “Things I could call my cats if I was a crazy cat lady with 37 kittens“.

So I’m super cheating – there are more than ten names on this week’s list. Too many names and not enough space in a list of ten to list all of them. So here are my names πŸ™‚ Enjoy!

So those are my favourite names. I didn’t include Sancho Panza from Don Quixote which is another favourite of mine because that actually is what my cat is named πŸ˜›

I’d love to know what literary people or characters you’d name your imaginary (or real!) cats! So please feel free to leave me a comment πŸ™‚

  1. Love the way you divided this up and your banners, they’re so pretty. I love that your cat is named Sancho Panza, I love Sancho. πŸ™‚ You have such great name picks, I especially liked Hazel (Watership Down’s my favorite fiction book!), Finnick, Don Diego de la Vega, Sherlock, Benvolio, and Jean Valjean (although you could bet I’d always be singing “Whooo ammm IIII” whenever I called my cat). πŸ™‚

    • Thanks πŸ˜€ I had fun making them. My posts are usually so lacking in colour.

Another Sancho fan! πŸ˜€ Most people don’t recognize where his name comes from…

I cheated with Don Diego de la Vega – I’ve never read that book but it’s one of my favourite names since I watched The Mask of Zorro πŸ˜›

And now I really want to name a pet Jean Valjean so I have an excuse to sing Les Mis at them all the time! Sancho doesn’t appriciate my singing nearly as much as he should!

  2. I’ve always wanted to name my kitty Four πŸ˜› Really great list! I’m organizing mine right now, but it’s a bit generic cause they are popular YA books! πŸ˜€

    • It’s because whenever I come across a name I adore I think “I’m totally going to name my cat this when I buy another one!!!” yep… if I had as many cats as I did names… I’d be on Hoarders: Animal Edition!

  3. I looooove how you did this blog post. And I love the names. . . Personally, I’ve always liked how Jean Valjean rolls off my tongue. My favorite name overall might be Aoife (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flammel series), though. I mean, it has every vowel but U in it. For whatever reason, that makes me love it.

  4. Wow! Love how you broke those all down! (That must have taken some time!) Veruca Salt definitely is an odd one. And I can’t believe I forgot to mention Westley on my list! (Going back now to edit it…) Also, I *love* Ophelia. Thanks for sharing! πŸ™‚

    • I used to think the name Veruca was beautiful. But my dad told me it meant foot wart πŸ˜› Like when I liked the name Melina from Wicked… dad informed me it was a disgusting bodily fluid!

So I’ll keep these names away from him so he can’t ruin them! πŸ˜›

  5. The Vampire Academy character names kick ass! πŸ™‚ ‘Fitzwilliam Darcy’ – I laughed when I read that, because in my mind he’s Mr Darcy or just Darcy, but of course in a modern age he’d just be Fitz wouldn’t he? πŸ™‚ I’m looking forward to tackling JT’s modern retelling of Sense and Sensibility this winter, I can’t wait to see what she’s done with it. Cool list honey!

    • He’ll always be Darcy – my sister in law’s cat is named Darcy :D. Her dog is named Lizzie after Elizabeth Bennet too πŸ˜›

Oohh… who is JT? That sounds like a retelling I’d enjoy too.
