Movie Talk: Divergent

I have to admit that I’ve been excited about this movie since the first time I heard it was announced. I LOVED the book and Insurgent was fantastic too. So what are my thoughts based on the trailer?

If you’re unfamiliar with the story, you can check out my review for Divergent here.

I’m thrilled. I wasn’t hugely supportive of Shailene Woodley as Tris but based on this short glimpse – I’m confident she can play the part fantastically.

And Kate Winslet is gorgeous. There looks to be plenty of action but this little snippet of the film doesn’t give away too much of the plot.

Based on this trailer I’m even more excited for the third book and this upcoming movie.

The comments I’ve seen have people thinking that it’s just another – and not as good – version of the Hunger Games. So not true. Being dystopian in nature there are similarities but Divergent stands alone in its brilliant ideas and great plot.

Are you fans of the book? New to the world of Divergent? I’d love to know what you thought.

  1. I’m a huge fan of Divergent and like you, I think the books are really original. 🙂 Also not a fan of cast originally… But I’m definitely coming around to them! Awesome trailer, so many bookish moments!

  2. My excitement is probs not as high as yours, and I do think it looks Hunger Gamesy – but these days it’s so hard for movies not to resemble other movies. Despite all that, I am sure I will see this when it’s finally out!

  3. I thought the trailer was great. Shailene Woodley was fantastic in Descendants and The Spectacular Now so I’m excited about seeing her as Tris. Other than Divergent being dystopian, I don’t think it’s another Hunger Games at all. Can’t wait!

  4. UGH NO. I can already FEEL that this movie is going to be great! I actually wholeheartedly approve of the casting, even if people think Shailene is too pretty for Tris, and Theo is too old for Four. They’re both amazing, adorable actors who have perfect chemistry if you ask me 🙂 I’m actually really thrilled about this movie! Awesome trailer, that is. 😀

  5. I’m super excited for this movie and this trailer only made me more comfortable with the casting choice for both Tris and Four. Theo was amazing and I think they did right by him. Kate Winslet totally killed her part and i can’t wait to see her as Janine Matthews! I can’t wait for March and I LOVE how we get glimpses into so many imporant scenes in the book. EEP!

  6. I think this trailer looks awesome, even if the Dauntless headquarters (or whatever they are called, I cannot remember) look NOTHING like I pictured. I mean, I was imagining dark, dank caves, and they don’t look like that at all. 🙁
I think the cast looks pretty good, but I think I will have to wait until I see the movie to make an informed decision about whether or not I agree with the choices!

  7. That trailer just showed every single important scene in the book! Trailers have been recently giving away too much of what will happen. And I agree with other comments saying that the Dauntless HQ doesn’t look how I pictured it. I thought it was going to be in a cave system with lots of black walls and goth decor. In addition, whoever plays Four is WAY too old for the part. He looks like he’s 30 years old, when he’s supposed to be 18 or something.

  8. I loved the first one! But I’m nervous about this movie, I am extremely picky about the way the characters should act and stuff and just…Tris….blonde hair…..super tiny child….I don’t know. Hopefully I love the movie just as much as the book. Great post!
