Reasons Why I Should NEVER Become an Author…

It’s no surprise that many book bloggers are aspiring authors. We love books. We love the way they transport us to different worlds. The way they make us fall in love and break our hearts. We love they teach and inspire us. We even love the way they smell.

As I begin to prepare myself for NaNoWriMo for another year (That self-imposed torture where every day people attempt to write a 50k word novel in November. How is it October already? Sometimes I look at the date and wonder if the calendar is lying to me again), I found myself thinking about all the reasons I want to write a book. That led to me compiling a list of all the reasons I should NEVER write a book.

Here’s just a few:

Reasons Why I Should NEVER Become an Author…

  1. The world is just not ready for my take on Regency Dragon stories. Can you just imagine it? Mr Wickham being eaten by a wyvern with Mr Darcy watching from a safe distance and superciliously tutting. I love Wickham but lets fact it – if dragons inherited the earth he would probably be either the first to go or the one running the show. If the Regency Dragon stories don’t work out I think I’d write a version of Queen Elizabeth and her vampire butler. On second thoughts maybe the world is missing out 😉

  2. The pay. I’m pretty sure if I was an author I would be one not earning enough to get by. And I’m worried if I were to write full time I wouldn’t be able to keep my cat in the lifestyle he has become accustomed to. The only thing worse than a cat lady is a former cat lady whose feline left her because of budget cat food. (Only half joking. My cat is a snob who only eats premium fancy single serve cuisine.)

  3. Pajamas. I could wear them all day every day and no one would be any the wiser. I’m caught between thinking this is the best thing ever and feeling sad that pajamas could become my uniform of choice…

  4. I think I would become nocturnal and suffer from vitamin D deficiency…

Is it weird that creating a list of the reasons why I shouldn’t be a writer has just made me want to write a book even more?

Happy NaNoWriMo prepping to you all 😀

  1. I love words. I love writing, books, and anything to do with either. Sadly, I rarely write actual stories any more! When I was a kid I wrote for fun ALL the time. Now I write reviews and snail mail letters. Heh.
