A Peculiar Kind of Week: Stacking the Shelves #02

STSmall

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme created and hosted by Tynga @ Tynga’s Reviews. It gives bloggers the chance to show their readers books they have bought, borrowed or received during the week.

Ever have one of those months where you have no idea where the time went? So busy and yet it’s only now as I’m catching my breath that I start to realize how out of control everything was. But its calm right now.

I want to thank everyone for their helpful comments regarding which new e-reader I should buy. I decided on a Kindle Paperwhite and am glad with my choice so far.

This week I have three new additions to my library:

The Peculiars by Maureen Doyle McQuerry

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

The Peculiars by M.D. McQuarry (thanks to Thames & Hudson)

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stievater. I bought this hardcover because it was on sale. I’m a Scorpio myself and found myself instantly attracted to the title. I already have a paperback copy but I’m a little addicted to buying hardcovers whenever I can. There’s just something very special about them.

Almost French by Sarah Turnbull. I love reading travel memoirs – especially by Aussies who have gone to Europe. I picked this one up second-hand and am excited to read it.

In other news – I crocheted a Banana in Pyjamas for my two-year old niece. It was her birthday a few weeks ago and this is a late gift for her. She’s a little obsessed with the TV show and I thought this would be the perfect present. It turned out to be a bit of a group effort with my mum and dad helping me knit (and by help… they knitted them all!) the pyjamas and I made the banana. I’m fairly proud of how good he turned out.

  1. Ohhhh, I want a Banana in Pyjamas too! That is just too stinkin’ cute! Ohhh, you should make one to giveaway. Go orrrrn, please?

Nice haul. I got The Peculiars too, looks awesome doesn’t it. I love a bit of steampunk every now and then and this one has me really intrigued. Have you read The Scorpio Races yet previously with having it in paperback? I’ve had it on my list for a while, but still haven’t bought it yet. Need a shove 🙂

  2. Yay for The Peculiars! Every Aussie blogger I’ve visited has received it, so it’ll be interesting to see what everyone thinks.

I really have got to read The Scorpio Races. Everyone raves about it! Oh, and that Banana in Pyjamas is just TOO cute <3

  3. The Peculiars looks so interesting, I’m really keen to read a few reviews of it and see if it sounds like the Steampunk book I’ve been searching for.
The Banana In Pyjamas is sweet! I’m going to have to start getting ready to make my nieces birthday present soon, too, which is going to be a hanging soot sprite mobile (like from Spirited Away and My Neighbour Totoro), I think, and I’m so excited to get working on it. Plus I get to watch heaps of movies whilst crafting, and listen to audiobooks, which is lots of fun!
