Stacking the Shelves #01

STSmall

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme created and hosted by Tynga @ Tynga’s Reviews. It gives bloggers the chance to show their readers books they’ve bought, borrowed or received during the week.

This is a meme I LOVE to read. Seeing people’s shiny new acquisitions is a lot of fun and I thought I’d join in this week.

The Forever Song (Blood of Eden #3) by Julie Kagawa
The Break Up Artist by Philip Siegel
The Diviners (The Diviners #1) by Libba Bray

Thank you to Harlequin Teen and Allen & Unwin for these copies to read and review.
I’m so excited about these book. I’ve been waiting to see how the Blood of Eden series ends ever since I finished reading the Eternity Cure. I recently realized I don’t read very much YA literature by male authors so I’m delighted to have the chance to read The Break Up Artist by Philip Siegel (especially since I saw somewhere that he loves My Best Friend’s Wedding. I love that film!). The Diviners looks amazing. It’s a big book but I’m already 100 pages in and loving Evie and where it’s going.

Popular: A Memoir by Maya Van Wagenen
Emma by Jane Austen

Popular – its a memoir – and I really enjoy reading memoirs. Most of the ones I read are of the travel sort (think like Only in Spain by Nellie Bennet or Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert kind of books) so I’m very interested to read this one. The author is still a teen and she already has people wanting to turn her life into a film!

I received Popular at the Penguin Teen Australia Live (#PTALive) event which was held in Brisbane on Monday night. If you have the chance to go to one – I highly recommend it. I had a great time. Felicity from Penguin is so full of passion and excitement about YA literature and it’s contagious. Hearing her try to describe the end of The Fiery Heart WITHOUT any spoilers was pretty awesome (she totally managed it too!). I met some amazing other bloggers from the SEQueensland area – Brittany from Nice Girls Read, Chiara from Delicate Eternity, Jeann from Happy Indulgence, Mikala from Written Suggestion, Brett from Demons Read Too. There are probably others too which I’ve just missed! See – so many great people!

I bought Emma this week because of at #PTALive I heard about Emma Approved – a web series which is a modern day retelling of Emma. Emma is the only Jane Austen book I’ve not read (despite being supposed to in high school). So I’m going to attempt to read the book and then watch the web series. 🙂

Other news on a more personal note – two new additions to my family this week. My sister in law had twins! I’m pretty excited. I love being an aunt to my niece and now to have two new babies to be an aunt to – very very cool. Just got started crocheting a baby blanket today.

  1. The blanket is incredibly sweet and love the colours you’ve used. There’s nothing more precious than a handmade gift. I have no idea how to crochet, I can knit basic things, scarves, squares but haven’t knitted since I was probably early 20’s. Congratulations on becoming an aunt <3

Awesome book haul and great job on your first STD.. I haven't been doing it long either. Can't wait to see what you think of The Forever Song, slot of mixed reviews around. Enjoy your new bookies 🙂

    • Knitting is beyond me. I crocheted a Banana sans Pyjamas for my niece a few weeks ago and had to get my mum to knit the pjs because I had no idea!

The Forever Song was good. I think it’s always hard with the series enders to please everyone. But I felt like it fit the series so far and was true to the characters as I knew them. 🙂

    • I just finished The Forever Song too and thought it was a great way to end the series. These are the only Julie Kagawa books I’ve read. I started the Iron King but lost my copy before I finished it! Should find it….

And thanks 🙂 I’m fairly proud of the blanket so far and very excited about the babies.
