Top Ten Tuesday: Popular Authors I’ve Never Read…

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.

Each week they will post a new Top Ten list that one of their bloggers over at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join.

The topic for this week is: Top Ten Popular Authors I’ve Never Read…

I found this week’s list hard to compile. Most popular authors that I’ve heard of I endeavour to read. I like seeing what is out there and if people are talking about a book – I want to read it too so I can compare my opinions!

Here are ten popular Young/New Adult authors that I’ve not read – yet. (Links take you to the author’s page on goodreads and I’ve put the titles of some of these authors books/series just incase you’re unfamiliar with them too)

  1. Garth Nix – The Abhorsen series, The Keys to the Kingdom series
  2. Libba Bray – The Gemma Doyle trilogy, Beauty Queens, The Diviners
  3. Alexandra Bracken – The Darkest Minds series
  4. Veronica Rossi – Under the Never Sky series
  5. Simone Elkeles – Perfect Chemistry series, Wild Cards series, How to Ruin series
  6. Ann Aguirre – The Samantha Jax series, Razorland series
  7. Abbi Glines – Too Far series, The Vincent Boys series
  8. Ransom Riggs – Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series
  9. Jennifer Echols – Going too far, Forget You, Such A Rush
  10. Ellen Hopkins – Crank, Impulse, Burned

After thinking about this topic for a while, I was on a roll. It wasn’t as hard as I first thought… but my to-read list is now a little heavier now than when I started!

  1. A couple of those are on my TBR list, like Ann Aguirre…and now that you’ve reminded me of Garth Nix, I loved his Abhorsen trilogy as a kid. Hm, maybe it’s worth looking up his newer stuff. Thanks for that!

  2. I’ve only read Libba Bray and Veronica Rossi out of the authors on your list. I would definitely recommend Veronica Rossi. If you can put up with starting another series!

  3. My list practically wrote itself, and could’ve easily gone on to include 100 more writers. I just don’t read popular, modern writers unless it might be for a literature class.

  4. I haven’t read any of these authors, either! XD
But I find that I take a very long time to get around to authors/books that everyone loves. I generally like to read whatever I’ve been feeling like reading at that time, and most of the time, the uber popular books just don’t fall into that category. And sometimes, I try and avoid very popular books, at least for a while, because I feel like I will go into the book with some preconceived notion that it is fantastic, and most of the time they don’t live up to it. 🙁

  5. I’ve only read three of these authors. I don’t think you are missing much in terms of Glines, in less you are looking for something sexy and beach-ready. I do like Libba Bray quite a bit though. Great list!

  6. I have a copy of books by both of them. Just haven’t got around to them yet. I have high expectations of Veronica Rossi and I think that’s why I’m nervous to read her books!

  7. I’m not sure if they’re good – I’ve not read them! 😛 But I think I’m going to start with Veronica Rossi. I’ve heard amazing things about her dystopian series.

  8. That’s what is making me not so eager to read Glines. I’m not a fan of New Adult which is basically just college kids having sex. I don’t consider myself a prude but there needs to be some kind of plot… I feel like she’s going to be one of those authors. But I shall read some Libba Bray 🙂

  9. It’s all the hype! I often feel let down by it. I don’t want to have other people’s opinions and expectations weighing down on me! Wow.. I sound a little silly but I think you know what I mean.

  10. There have been a lot of authors that I’ve not heard much about but seeing others lists and the comments on them… I’ve added quite a few books to my to-be-read list.
