Top Ten Tuesday: Most Memorable Secondary Characters

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.

Each week they will post a new Top Ten list that one of their bloggers over at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join.

The topic for this week is:ย Top Ten Most Memorable Secondary Charactersย

I do love secondary characters. Whether they be there to be a supportive sidekick to the hero or add some much needed comic relief – I love a good secondary character. The ones on my list today are my favourite and whilst some may be more minor than secondary – they’re all memorable to me for various reasons.

Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter series by JK Rowling – She’s eccentric and oh-so odd but somehow she manages to make perfect sense. Maybe she’s the only one who really knows what going on and everyone else is too firmly placed in reality. ย There are so many great secondary characters from Harry Potter and some others that I love were: Neville Longbottom, The Weasley Twins, Severus Snape.

Finnick Odair from the Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins – He’s cheeky and flirty but when it comes down to it, he does what has to be done. He’s got to be pretty strong to win a Hunger Games when he was only 14. I also love Cinna and Haymitch from this series.

Zuzana from Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor – Zuzana is part fearless sidekick but she’s very funny too. I love her and her antics with boyfriend as they support Karou.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #1)

Jackal from the Blood of Eden series by Julie Kagawa – Jackal is one of those characters but you can’t quite know where his alliances lie but it’s a lot of fun to speculate what he’s going to do next. Jackal is my favourite thing about this series so far.

The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden, #1)

Magnus Bane from The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare – Okay, so I may have only read the first book. But he’s brilliant and I can’t wait to see where he pops up next. He’s left quite an impact on me considering how brief his appearance was in City of Bones.

Captain Caswell Throne from Scarlet by Marissa Meyer – He’s brilliant! Cocky and self-assured and only slightly incompetent. He is the main reason I’m looking forward to reading Cress when it comes out! ๐Ÿ˜€ Special mention to Iko who is also a great secondary character and support for Cinder.

Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles, #2)

Infinite Darlene from Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan – A former quarterback named Daryl who is now the school’s homecoming queen, Infinite Darlene had some great lines and I loved what she added to this book. I read this book ten years ago and she still sticks in my mind as a great secondary characters…. that’s pretty memorable!

Boy Meets Boy

Jules from the Revenants series by Amy Plum – He’s not part of the Kate/Vincent epic love but he’s funny and I’d read a full length novel with him as the main character.

Die for Me (Revenants, #1)

Nox from Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas – He may be an assassin who makes a living killing people but he’s a great friend to Celeana. And as a plus – he’s a bff with no romantic interest in the heroine ๐Ÿ˜€

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)

The Mad Hatter from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland – He’s mad but amusing and a character that I’d read an entire book where he was the main character… ๐Ÿ˜€

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

ย

I adore secondary characters and this list has reminded me of that. There are so many more that I couldn’t fit on my list. I’d love to hear from you and see which non-main characters you love!

  1. Finnick is on my list, too! I adored him in Mockingjay. I did not expect to like Jackal at all in the Blood of Eden series, but he grew on me pretty fast. I’m just starting the fifth HP book, so I have not met any Luna Lovegood yet, but I’m glad she’s awesome. ๐Ÿ™‚ Yay for Captain Thorne! I loved how he never became a love interest in Scarlet.

  2. I love your list! So many of these characters I considered for my list as well. Finnick is fantastic, and I like Jules too. (I didn’t read the final book of the series yet so I hope I still like Jules!) Luna is probably my fave from the HP world too.
