Top Ten Tuesday: Authors on my Auto-Buy List

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.

Each week they will post a new Top Ten list that one of their bloggers over at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join.

This week’s topic is:   Top Ten Authors That I’d Put On My Auto-Buy List (basically an auto-buy list is no questions asked..you love this author so much that no matter what they wrote next you’d buy regardless of genre or subject matter)

I have a mix of young adult authors as well as more adult authors this week – and a few who dabble in both.

Richelle Mead
– I started reading her Georgina Kincaid Succubus series early last year. From there I read all of the Vampire Academy and Bloodline books. I have recently bought the first of the Dark Swan series and can’t wait to read it. This is an author that I pre-order as soon as they become available to order. I’m very excited about her new adult series Gameboard of the Gods which is released later this year.

JK Rowling – I loved Harry Potter. So I went out and bought A Casual Vacancy as soon as it was released… and ever since that day it’s been sitting on my bed side table just waiting for me to get around to reading it.

Laini Taylor – Having just finished Days of Blood and Starlight, I have Laini Taylor on my auto-buy list. Can’t wait to see what is going to happen next.

Melina Marchetta – Contemporary or Fantasy – this is an author that I absolutely adore and I would read anything she wrote.

Veronica Roth (Divergent), Marissa Meyer (Cinder), Sarah J. Maas (Throne of Glass) – these are authors where I’ve only read one or two of their books in a particular series but loved them. Will definitely be reading the rest of the aforementioned series!

Meg Cabot – I’ve read almost everything she’s written. Even those books under pseudonyms. Definitely an auto-buy author for me. Even if I’ve bought Abandon years ago and still haven’t read it. I’ll get there some day!

Meg CabotThe Princess DiariesShadowland - the first book in the Mediator seriesThe Boy Next Door

Kresley Cole – I fell in love with her paranormal romance series, Immortals After Dark, and followed her to the YA novel, Poison Princess. For me, she excelled in both genres and I’ll follow her anywhere. The same could be said for Kelley Armstrong, Jennifer Estep and Sherrilyn Kenyon – authors that I adore their paranormal/urban fantasy for adults who also write fantastic YA novels.

Poison PrincessThe SummoningTouch of FrostInfinity

JR Ward, Patricia Briggs, Larissa Ione, Charlaine Harris, Katie MacAlister – all paranormal/urban fantasy writers whose books I love and buy as soon as I see they have a new one released. All of these are writers of adult fiction rather than young adult.

So that’s my slightly longer than a top ten list of my auto-buy authors. Do we have any in common? Are there any authors on your list that you think I should know about? Please leave me a comment telling me your thoughts on this week’s top ten 🙂

    • Thanks! I love buying book by favourite authors too – it’s always exciting when I’m anticipating a release and then finally getting my hands on a copy. Thanks for commenting 🙂

  1. We both have Richelle Mead at the top – high five! Taylor, Roth, and Meyer are some of my faves too. I need to catch up with all the Marchetta books- I’m so behind!
Thanks for the great author recs 🙂

  2. I still haven’t read Rowling. :hides in shame: I’ve been wanting to try Cole for awhile now. Great list and am checking out the authors I haven’t read.

    • Absolutely nothing to be ashamed over not reading Rowling. My sister refuses to read them too.

And I have friends who refuse to watch the movies because they think they’re too dark – not in content but rather the colours used 😛 Thanks for stopping by

  3. I never knew Meg Cabot wrote under pseudonyms too! I have read most of the Princess Diaries books and really enjoyed them, Mia makes me laugh a lot. I read Avalon High and didn’t really enjoy it, but I know there are loads more books she’s written that I haven’t got round to reading yet!

    • When Meg first published her Mediator series and the 1800-Where-R-U series, she published them under the name JEnny Carroll”. And she had some historical romance published under the name “Patricia Cabot”. But I think these days they are all republished under her real name…

      Thanks for visiting 🙂

    • Very excited. I’m not that familiar with the work of any of the characters that have been casted so far. What about you? Looking forward to seeing VA brought to life?

      • YES, definitely. I know Zoey Deutch from Ringer, and I’ve seen some videos of Danila Kozlovksy on the VA movie Facebook page… he’ll be a great dimka and I’m quite impressed with his acting 😉

  4. I bought The Casual Vacancy as soon as it came out too and haven’t read it yet 🙁 I want to read it soon, but it’s so long I feel like I have to have a week to devote to it! I like your list… Meg Cabot is pretty rad and I like Melina Marchetta evne though I didn’t read “get” Jellicoe Road.

Thanks for stopping by My TTT

    • Maybe we both need to try and make the time to read The Casual Vacancy…. but everytime I even think about starting it I get hungry. I think it’s the combination of the yellow and red colour that make me think about peanut butter… or mustard and tomato sauce…

      Thanks for visiting 😀

    • Thanks! I probably need to cut down on my book buying but when there are so many authors that I adore – I just can’t help myself
Thanks for stopping by my TTT this week 🙂

    • I used to be obsessed too – I remember being in high school and trying to get my best friend to read her books. But sadly my best friend thought they were trashy and not up to her intellectual standards… Just about broke my heart. But my love for Meg stayed strong.

      Thanks for stopping by 😀

    • Patricia Briggs is on my mind at the moment – I’m very excited about the next Mercy Thompson book! 😀 And I preordered it a while ago so I guess that proves that this list is accurate for me and these are auto-buy authors!

      Thanks for visiting 🙂

  5. Great Picks, i love Veronica Roth, on my list too! and wish i would have put Marissa Myer on my list too! Love Cinder, and i have already auto bought Scarlet! cant’ wait to read it! thanks for checking out our list! – Katie
